After meeting with the music department chair last week, I now know that I will, without a doubt, finally graduate at the end of this semester. It's been 5 years, which really isn't that long considering I will graduate with a 130 credit Bachelor of Fine Arts and a minor, but man, it has seemed to take forever. Now I'm busy compiling my senior portfolio (I'm going to sneak a PW composition in there) and looking for post graduation jobs of any sort.

So, in just over 2 months I may suddenly have tons of free time on my hands. What a concept! I'll be looking for some cool new art or story ideas to compose for in May!

I can't believe it was June last time I made an entry in here. I suppose the whole apartment hunting, apartment moving into (and subsequent battles with the landlord), start of the semester, etc kept me pretty busy.

This is my last semester as a full time student, and boy has it been busy. I have some fairly easy classes, Zen in the Martial Arts, Intro to the Actor's Art, but I also have some tough ones, German Civilization and of course piano and composition lessons. I'm also in a choir and orchestra this semester, which eats up tons of time. Tack on nearly 30 hours of work/week and an Oct. 27 wedding to prepare music for, and I'm busy.

Although busy, I'm still around, and will gladly work on music/sound for any upcoming projects. Remember, you can listen to all of my PW pieces, and even some of my other work here.

I FINALLY completed a piano trio I started in late April. Here it is! Right now it's titled "Lonely Night" I guess. I'm totally winning a lot of creativity points with that title.

As always, you can listen to all the music I've written at http://kent.effigyband.net/PW/.

Oh glory, the semester is over. I somehow managed to get an A- in my music tech class, and the rest of my classes went equally well. This is my first week off, and I've been spending it doing not much at all. I'm only working 30 hours/week over the summer, so I'll actually be able to get things done.

Oh, and by "doing not much at all" I mean creating these two sites: A Life Elided and Effigy.

Njpaul and I are also working on two new techno tracks, and I have a PW trio that I started nearly a month ago. Yay for productivity!!!

The semester craziness continues. It's all done in just a few weeks though.

The good news is that I somehow managed to complete an action/war piece for PW.
PW Action/War features driving percussion, a lighter interlude, and a grand chorale section. I hope you all enjoy.

Project Wish Theme for Solo Guitar is another project I worked on a few weeks ago. The entire theme has been arranged for solo classical-style guitar. The file is in PDF format, so anybody can view it and learn it if you'd like! Whenever I get a good guitar of my own, I will record it along with some other solo guitar pieces I've written over the years.

That'll probably be all from me until May. Later.

Hi everybody, I sure have been busy lately and haven't checked in or been on IRC for quite some time. I have been talking to Echorev a lot, however (God bless Gmail's chat service). This semester has just been awful- lots of homework, lots of work. I finally went live with a website I've been working on forever (http://www.uwm.edu/Dept/IRE/), but now the people want to add a search engine, a new tab, a few new features, and an online registration and payment system. GAH!!! I'm a student... a MUSIC student, not a professional web designer. The site is low on my priority list, but eating up all of my time.

Anyway, Spring Break starts in an hour and a half. Expect a new piece from me in a week or so.

Well, last Wednesday I started two mystery/adventure pieces for PW, and I finished both of them this weekend. They are as follows:

-Night Mystery/Adventure: As njpaul commented, this piece gives the sense of walking through woods at night. It is dark and mysterious, but always with a sense of direction, and even a bit of hope before the piece's recap.

-Mystery/Adventure (Main Theme): This piece is yet another rendition of the PW main theme, but with a secondary, mysterious motive added.

As always, a full listing of the music I've created can be found here: http://kent.effigyband.net/PW/

I finished writing another adventure piece for the game just the other day. This one would be best suited for some night-time adventures. I've also been working with echorev on a new adventure piece he's working on.

The semester is only two weeks in and I have far too much to manage already. I'm working three jobs right now, my regular two and private web design gig I intended to complete over winter break. Unfortunately, the clients change their minds every week, which has resulted in a horribly over-complicated and exceedingly lengthy design and implementation. Hopefully that job wraps up soon and I can reclaim that 10-15 hours it steals from me each week.

Sadly, I have no interest in any of my classes, nor do I see much relevance in any of the subject matter. I'm learning this really wacky audio software designed for bizarre-sounding computer-generated audio. It's much closer to programming than to music, and has no place outside of the world of academia or of the avante garde. This semester will most assuredly be rough, but I'm sure I'll eventually ignore my homework, work, and social life and work on Project Wish material as I did last semester.

The audio team is working on some adventure songs for the game. Last week, I helped echorev finish his first contribution to the project, and just yesterday I finished writing an adventure version of the PW main theme. Here is the first draft of the mp3. There will be some changes in voicing here and there, but this is pretty close to the final product:
Adventure version of the main theme

Last week Nate (njpaul) and I also worked on a new techno song. We're really proud of it, so please take a listen (first song on the list). And no, it's not exactly "techno," and I'm certainly not sure which genre it best falls into. wink.gif

Well, I'm back from being home for the holidays and a ski trip, so I suppose I'll get back to work now.
