Project Wish _ PW Roleplay _ Hankellin's Revenge Characters and Discussion

Posted by: Hankellin Oct 2 2006, 09:32 AM

Here's the template for everybody's characters. Please PM me your Characters.

Use the Dice Roller:
http://www.openroleplaying.org/tools/dieroller/index.cgi

Any numbers below 8 raise to 8

Name:
Race:
Profession: (see the following section)
Level: (you'll all begin at Journeyman level of your Profession. Just one for a base start)
Alignment: (your views on life. Choose from Law or Chaos and Good and Evil. A character can be neutral and not favor either side for both choices, making 9 total alignments)
Deity: (Not really needed. Just flavoring)
Appearance: (Give a physical description, as well as general style of clothing)
Spells Known: (If you do not have any and can leave this blank)
Inventory: (pick a normal, non-magical weapon and normal non-magical armor of no greater value than 50 gp apiece, keep the rest of the cash if not used. Also, everyone will start with an extra 100 gp in addition to the other stuff)
Biography:

STATS: (These are for general purposes only)

Strength: Determines attack accuracy and power
Dexterity: Natural grace and fluidity of motion
Constitution: Fortitude and HP
Intelligence: Gives more skill points. Also makes wizard spells more potent.
Wisdom: Willpower and natural senses. Makes divine spells more powerful
Charisma: A person's charm and personality, as well as good looks. Useful for most of paladin/bard abilities, and makes spells better for sorcerers and bards.

I will reserve a couple posts for editing the creation process. This is my first attempt at skill based gaming.

Please bear with me.

As I stated in the first post: This is my first attempt at a skill based game.

When I last ran a game I did all skill checks and rolls, trying to make the game as easy for the players as I could.

If you want to attempt something just let me know what you attempt and I will tell you if you succede or fail.

Only weapon restrictions I believe in are size related... Pixie weilding a great sword... that kind of thing.

I do not want every player to instantly know what every other player can or cannot do so please send you character ideas to me.

For skills that is a tough one.. I listed the basic skill list but I am not sure how I will relate the expertise in each skill and how they advance.

perhaps borrow from DnD and base ititial skill values on Intelligence..

I am open to suggestions.

Thanks Static,

I would have perfered if you PM'd me the skills chosen... I like th element of unknown in my games when PC are first introduced... No harm done though.

Preconcieved nothions of what you did or did not choose can lead to interesting by-play between players.

I work nights and it is past my bedtime.

I will be back this evening (PST as I live in OR) to update and respond.

Have fun and give me feedback please.

Wow! This is great Hankellin! smile.gif Nice work, excellent posts. And, great die roller! Thanks! I'm working on Gassy currently.

Posted by: Hankellin Oct 3 2006, 06:47 AM

I have two Characters...

Due to their divergent nature they will have to start in two seperate areas.... They may meet or not... Depends on how they play.

I do not necessarily have my players working together or toward the same ends...

But, I give a lot of leeway on how you play and what you can do. I feel that an open ended game is good with a little direction from me.

Yes, I do have a story to tell, but some of it will be made up on the fly to keep the play as unencumbered as possible...

If you want to spend days exploreing the town I start you in great.. but there may be inconsistances that crop up.

Just let me know and I will redirect back on to the game.

Posted by: joshpurple Oct 3 2006, 11:16 AM

I'll be very happy to follow your lead Hankellin, and Thank You for the time and work you are putting in, much appreciated! smile.gif

Please feel free to set it up so that it works best for you (hopefully reducing problems, and work load for you smile.gif ), Gassy is pretty much 'shareware' when it comes to control.

Posted by: Hankellin Oct 3 2006, 06:40 PM

Game play thread has started...

Please try to keep OOC discussion and questions in this thread.

I can make space for as many players that want to join.

Posted by: Hankellin Oct 4 2006, 02:40 PM

From another thread:

QUOTE(joshpurple @ Oct 3 2006, 11:44 AM)
Thanks Hankellin smile.gif , that's a great resource, very well done & lots to it.

I'm comfortable with the Free Form, and at the same time, I do very much enjoy the random chance that die rolling allows for. I guess I might describe it as 'Free From Die Rolling RP' ?

So, if Gassy wants to throw a rock and hit an orc, one way it might be done;

----------------
joshpurple; Gassy sees the orc, thinking that he is well concealed from the orc, Gassy decides it would make a lot of sense to piss him off, so Gassy throws a rock at the orc's head.
(Die; 1d20, success = 17 or better.  Roll: http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=655411 )
Gassy misses by just  a little bit, the rock cracks into the tree near the orc. The orc turns to see where the noise came from.

---------------
Or,
-------------

joshpurple; Gassy sees the orc, thinking that he is well concealed from the orc, Gassy decides it would make a lot of sense to piss him off, so Gassy throws a rock at the orc's head.

GM (Hankellin);  O.k., you will need a 14 or better on 1d20, if you miss, the orc might notice.  Use the die roller I posted, and email me the results.

joshpurple;  Gassy throws the rock (email sent).

GM;  The party sees Gassy pop up and throw a rock at the orc, it misses!  The orc turns to see where the noise came from.

joshpurple:  Gassy waves at the orc and moons him.

-----------------------

Or;

-----------------

<other ideas welcome! smile.gif >

And, as I mentioned, I will be very happy to go with what you decide on Hankellin.  I completely trust your judgement, and I consider this an RP you are setting up (Very cool of you, Thank you!)  .
*

I will handle the mechanics of gameplay and most will be invisible to the players. This is the way I like to do things and it works as long as the players don't mind.

I will not instant kill any PC unless they are doing something REALLY STUPID. (Naked goblin tugging a dragon's tail)

I like to tell stories and if the PC's die too soon it is no fun for me or them.

Notice I did NOT say the PC CANNOT die, just that they will not die too soon.

Excellent Hankellin, that sounds great to me & you do an AWESOME job at it biggrin.gif , Thank You!

I knew the profession... I left it blank on purpose in case you wanted to hide it from other players. :-)

lol! Ah, Thank You smile.gif . No worries then, others are welcome to know.

Posted by: Hankellin Oct 6 2006, 03:44 PM

Maxwell,

Perhaps you should knock on the gate? :-)

The gate keeper is a bit blind. The thunder and rain make him want to stay in by the fire. His bones ache you see.

Yay a new character...

And as different for me as a goblin.

Player: Matlush

Name: Muh'Farho

Matlush, I am going to place your character in the town already inside the Inn.

Posted by: Hankellin Oct 9 2006, 11:18 PM

You are not afraid of a little PC vs PC are you? ph34r.gif

Posted by: joshpurple Oct 10 2006, 12:11 AM

Wonderful! And, I have no problems with Gassy getting crushed, killed, beaten, used, dismembered, eaten, or any number of other wonderfully horrible things smile.gif . I enjoy it all.

Posted by: Matlush Oct 10 2006, 01:08 AM

Well, nope, but I'd rather not kill anyone on start oO XD

Posted by: Matlush Oct 10 2006, 06:59 AM

Oh, one more thing. Will there be any IRC sessions ? So far it's quite slowly.. atleast for me XD

I have never done IRC sessions. I understand that it is a bit slower thatn some would like but that is the drawback to this type of game.

I can try to speed up the plot line a bit though.

Posted by: Hankellin Oct 11 2006, 12:22 AM

Current status:

Gassy: Laying in the mud after being thrown from Red's horse.

Muh'Farho: watching the goings on outside the Inn.

Redwolf: keeping his skin intack after being a good samiritain(sp?) trying to help a drunk to his feet. And his horse is in the middle of being stolen by a naked goblin.

Knobe: At the gate entering the town.

Am I forgetting anyone?

I am open to more players as well.

Posted by: Hankellin Oct 13 2006, 03:03 PM

I am going to be gone for a couple days. Perparations for this have kept me away until now.

Sorry for the late update.

Posted by: Hankellin Oct 15 2006, 11:18 PM

Well, I am back and the game is seeing its first interactions. From here more plot items will be introduced.

I have not forgotten the suggestions of map bearing people nor about a man that hurts people.

Have fun.

Posted by: Hankellin Oct 18 2006, 02:14 AM

Trying hard to keep a goblin alive...

A bit hard when he has no common sense or cunning.. LOL

Just lucky that the two chasing him are almost as inept. :-)

Posted by: Matlush Oct 18 2006, 02:12 PM

Maxwell, StaticGrazer, you've not posted long time sad.gif XD

Posted by: Pandra Oct 18 2006, 04:18 PM

They might be busy with school, it is mid term time for most colleges, or they might be busy with work. Alot of places are gearing up for the seasonal rush

.... is it bad that I'm looking forward to the post Christmas slump?

Posted by: Maxwell Oct 20 2006, 11:42 AM

Yea sorry it took so long real life had began to catch up to me (Midterms and Programs due). Feels good to be back though.

Posted by: Hankellin Oct 22 2006, 11:29 PM

StaticGrazerr I am going to take control for a post to wrap up the fight between Red and the so far unknown knight.

Unless you want to that is.

Posted by: Hankellin Oct 25 2006, 01:36 AM

I am soo tired between work and other stuff going on right now I cannot think straight.

I am going to take a couple days to recharge my brain and I wil be back in the game Friday..

Hope you understand.

Posted by: Maxwell Oct 25 2006, 08:21 AM

Take your time Hankelin. We understand RL can creep up on you or even sometime throw a suprise attack(hate those). Hope you feel better.

Posted by: joshpurple Oct 26 2006, 12:35 PM

RP is NEVER a rush or worry for me, so no worries at all, completely understandable! And Thanks again for the EXCELLENT RP! Take your time.

Taking your spouse(39yr old) to the ER for squeezing chest pain and shortness of breath is deffinately a surprise. sad.gif

Yea, safe then sorry is right. I got some good advice from someone once. It might cost as much as a vaction to take a loved one to get checked out, so why not miss one vaction. Instead worrying about going alone on your next one.

It's weird advice, but I found it soothing to hear, so I decided to pass it on to you.

Posted by: Hankellin Nov 1 2006, 10:23 AM

Simple puzzle? My next may not be as easy. smile.gif

Posted by: Hankellin Nov 1 2006, 05:56 PM

Liking the game so far?

Now can you see why the townsfolk did not want to tell Hankellin his daughter was killed?

Thank you for the comforting advice. It did help a bit.

Matlush, I hope you are enjoying it as well.

If you have any problems with the game or notice something that may help me run it better, I am always open to suggestions..

I may not follow them but at least I will listen.

Posted by: Hankellin Nov 5 2006, 06:00 AM

A dice roll was suggested earlier

Well, to let you all in on it.. I fake them alot. If you as players give me a good response then I usually give you the benefit of the doubt and you get some of the results you want if not all.

Let's take Gassy's jump at a window. Night time back of building. I made them shuttered and barred. Now josh, gave me a good reply of what he wanted Gassy to do. and I let him. even with dice rolls it would have been a great feat for a small goblin to break in the shutters say 1 in 50. I did not roll dice but gave back a detailed reply of what happened to his character.

Maxwell's attack on the fleeing person in the ally... I needed him to stop the man for the plot. So his throw did that.

Another example would be finding a chest or trunk. Do you try and open it with no regard to traps or whatnot? In another game a character lost the use of her arm to a poison needle. She had not checked the trunk, but the trunk had just gone through a fire... so maybe she did not feel the need...

If the lack of dice determining your results bothers you, I am sorry.

Posted by: joshpurple Nov 5 2006, 02:50 PM

I enjoyed the Gassy results! smile.gif Good examples, and that works for me Hankellin smile.gif .

Posted by: Maxwell Nov 5 2006, 04:56 PM

Having no dice rolls doesn't bother me I actually like the story flow of it. It lets you create the story you want even though me may throw it off a bit. smile.gif

Posted by: Hankellin Nov 6 2006, 12:25 AM

I am glad this manner works for you.

Otherwise I feel it would really slow things down if I had to roll dice or wait for you to get me the results of your dice rolls.,

Posted by: Hankellin Nov 6 2006, 12:31 AM

I have just introduced an NPC that Pandra may or may not control at some point.

Name: Tassletop
Race: Pixie
Profession: Trickster
Level: Journeyman

Inate abilities: Invisibilty; Flight; Static Shock

Posted by: Matlush Dec 8 2006, 07:59 AM

Well, it's been a month till the last post in gameplay topic... Did the game die ? Or is it just frozen ? XD

Posted by: Pandra Dec 9 2006, 08:01 AM

Well if you look back Hankellin was having some issues because of a neighbor and I kinda suspected they weren't down with that yet, since the neighbor seem to be the petty, vindictive type.

Hopefully RL isn't giving him too much trouble and he'll be back once it all get's straightened out.

Isn't it amazing how petty some people can be....

Well, the neighbor has been arrested but released. Charged with witness tampering (Minor felony), phone harrassment(Class B misdemeanor) as well as the animal neglect/abuse charges from the rabit hording.

I am hoping that the seriousness of the situation is now clear and this person will go on about their business and leave me and mine out of it.

Sorry to leave you all hanging (Matlush). After I refresh my memory as to where everyone is located and what information they have I will start posting once again.

Again thank you for bearing with me.

Posted by: Hankellin Dec 25 2006, 07:44 AM

I have read back and will continue after I have contacted the other players concerning the resurgence of the game.

Posted by: Hankellin Dec 29 2008, 01:18 AM

Hello,

It has been a LONG time but I feel that I/We can enjoy a bit of the roleplay if enough interest/players is/are still around.

What do you say?

Posted by: Hankellin Dec 30 2008, 04:20 PM

I have two people willing to take up the game once more. I would really like to have at least three.

This will bring some activity to the boards at least. :-)

Posted by: Hankellin Jan 4 2009, 02:12 PM

Ok, I have contacted Matlush and Pandra. No others have responded.

I can continue this story(Oh the wonders of messageboard games), or I can start another one.

I would like to finish this one or at least see where it leads. biggrin.gif

In the current story, Matlush and Tass are in the Inn's basement/cellar approaching the body of Hankellin's daughter.

As for the rest it will only matter if other players join.

Posted by: Pandra Jan 13 2009, 02:45 PM

Is it just me, or was the site down? I kept getting redirected to GoDaddy there for a while. It was creepy.

Posted by: Honis Jan 13 2009, 09:14 PM

It wasn't just you. Happened to me too.

Posted by: Jerky Jan 14 2009, 02:27 AM

The site registration had expired (unbeknownst to me). I quickly re-registered it and it came back.

Posted by: Hankellin Jan 14 2009, 09:43 AM

I was not sure either....

BUt I saw it come back after a couple days.

I am not sure how the change in PW is going to affect any roleplaying that may happen though. unsure.gif
