I have noticed that there are a few different types of MMORPGs out there.
ORPG: Online Role Playing Games are the ones where you are really trying to play your character out, it's not all about getting the best prizes, but it's something that you build with your character. Some games try for this, but few can do it. Star Wars Galaxies had this and I think that the DDO wants it, but just can't reach it.
MMOG: Massively Multiplayer Online Games are not Role Playing Games by any stretch, World of Warcrap is a prime example. The entire game is to beat people up as fast as you can and get the best stuff (so someone can take it from you). Too many of these exist right now.
MMORPG: Games like Ultima Online and EverQuest are Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games. They have a lot of players and they try to Role Play, but there are those who want to PVP and gain the best stats also. This is a great setup, but hard to really reach.
OPVPS: Online Player Versus Player Servers are just that. Doom, Jedi Knight Series, and the like are these. They are there just to beat people up and nothing more. No advancement and no style. While very fun, there isn't much you get out of it.
The reason I bring all of these up is because I am wondering where we are going ot go with PW. Everyone wants to reach the rank of MMORPG because of the diverse croud you can pull in, but the problem with those is that no one really gets what they want, the RPers are overrun by PVPers and the PVPers are all trying to kill everyone and ruining the game. I would love to see PW become a ORPG, there is really something exciting about the idea of having all of our characters building a great history about themselves and sharing it with others.
I'm not saying that we should have them all be the saviours of the lands, but they should be helping somehow. It's really something to think about, even if we are still in Pre-Alpha.

Well I'm still reading up on Wish and PW. I know the two aren't related in anything but spirit. But still it's good to know the history behind what you're getting into.
Anyway, I'd love to see PW start out as an ORPG and over time evolve into an MMORPG as it builds up it's player base and improves. To me that would signify that the game is progressing, that the dev team, designers, programser, all those people who worked in creating the game in the first place are still active, and are still bringing in freash ideas and stuff. Not just sitting back with their feet up on their desk leaving the pressure of running the game on the shoulders of customer service and tech support, sans EQ and WoW.
Yah they crap out yet another expansion every now and again, but I'm sure everyone is exprienced enough gaming to know what an expansion signifies.
>.> but if it goes to MMORPG, I'm a big fan of sorted servers. Ask the players questions, give them relevant answers and recommend a server (PvP) (normal) (RP style nazi) (RP style I speak ye olde english even if it doesn't make sense in the world setting) (RP style you're cool enough to RP with anyone and not get your panties in a bunch if they RP diffrently from you).

QUOTE(Pandra @ Sep 20 2006, 11:08 PM) Well I are awesome. I hit the red X button instead of the minimise button when I was multitasking and now I can't get back into the IRC >.< Heh, and here we thought you didn't like us. I mean we don't smell that bad. -said in disregard of the back his lab coat is slowly burning after the latest and greatest failed invention- Dunno what's keeping you out though.

Slightly modified and simplified IRC howto, originally something I wrote for my defunct wish guild. Note that it assumes MS Windows. mIRC is the best irc client, but unfortunately it's only for windows. If you're not using windows, you might try xchat(gui) or irssi(text only), but they don't behave exactly like mirc. Feel free to ask questions.
First off, download and install mIRC from www.mirc.com. Second, connect to the server. This can be a little bit tricky, but the easy way is to just get rid of the options window and whatever else pops up and paste into the status window (the window occupying most of the main window) this line:
/server irc.projectwish.com
If you can't connect, the server may be down or your firewall may be blocking port 6667.
Let's assume you've connected with no problems. To join the pw channel, type
/join #projectwish
To change your nick, type for example
/nick Bob
That will change your nick to "Bob". Not a very creative nick, so feel free to choose another nickname.
Nicknames can't contain spaces, so
/nick Bob The Builder
would also change your nick to "Bob".
To talk in a channel, type in the message without any prefix in the channel window and hit enter.
To send a message to only one person(in this example Bob), type
/msg Bob Hi Bob, irc is fun, don't you think?
or
/query Bob
and then talk normally in the window that appears. You can also double-click Bob's nick in the list of nicks to the right, and you will get the same window as when you /query him.
