With all the speculation on the forums, I haven't read what I consider a major possibility. <maybe I just missed it>
MR got into the Beta 2. ramped up the users, and had several patches. The system was amazingly stable, I saw few bugs, and none major. Every section that I tested worked as it should. Many worked better then expected. Then suddenly its shutdown. In my opinion, as a business person, the beta was over. Load testing had been done, play testing had been done, debugging was substantially done. Why spend more money on providing a free game. Thus, turn it off. A big clue is that MR is still around, and people still answer the phone.

Ok what now. If I was a low budget outfit, and had enough venture capital to write the game, and get it finished, then I would certainly have enough brains to figure out, that I now had a very sellable product. Therefore:
1) Go out for more venture capital.
2) Sell the game outright to someone else.
3) Find a distribution company willing to handle the marketing, advertising, billing, accounting, etc. and develop a contract with them.

During that time, don't keep servers and live content going, as its just money down the drain. Yes, some programmers will continue on changing the UI and fixing bugs, but they do not require loads of people.
My guess, is that WISH will reappear, by summer <school is out> or November for Christmas.
I don't think we will be able to buy the intellectual property from MR. I would also tread very carefully and only with a written agreement that any copying of ideas that were presented in WISH would not be subject to lawsuits by MR. This is still a very valuable property, with lots of IP in it, and still under total ownership of MR, not in public domain.

I have already got the map walkable on , and 1 NPC partially functional. Next step would be to setup a database interface with what I have now so that people can make active and working accounts. That will take forever :(

How exactly did you make that server emulator to be able to walk around? That is very vital information, and if it could be shared that would be wonderful.

emulating or interacting in any other way with the WISH client is illegal even if the game is gone . Locked. :)
