Whilst PW is based in a fictional world, the many players will still look to the real world as a comparison for those elements that are not "fantasy". In my opinion, skill decay that occurs in a week feels "not right". Going to a "skill facility" feels "not right". Someone who has been hacking away with a sword for 5 years isn't about to become unproficient in a week, a month or even a year. Sure, put it down for 30 years and you might be a little rusty (lose that "edge" stat), but little else. When we learn things over and over again, our brains get better and better. Like riding a bicycle.

Why should skills decay? To punish the player for not playing regularly? If so, there are better and other ways to do it (all the other players will have levelled, moved on, done better things, got more cash). Perhaps to hold a position of importance (leader of a guild, leader of a town, leader of a kingdom etc), those positions require a certain number of hours per week.

Following on from Dwilf's post about ditching the health meter, I believe PW should be taken a firm but well-decided step away from "the norm". Skill decay belongs in a game solely based on stats/bars of measurement and little else smile.gif

Excellent points Bingo and ALL smile.gif .

If the skill system is set-up well, then hopefully the additional work of a decay system might not be needed? (I try to think along the lines of; least amount of work for programmers, makes most in-game Fun, makes sense in-game, trouble shoot/safe-guards needed -to keep game balance & game speed at good 'levels.' <---And, open minded to any changes with that smile.gif ).

I could see skill decay being used in some ways;

1. If we had a system that 'abused' players being able to collect a 1,000 different skills & all of them would stay at 'high levels.' Decay would be a way of 'curbing' that abuse? But, a good skill system will hopefully avoid 'unrealistic' skills levels?

2. Decay of skills could be used as a curse, a disease, a protection / ward / glyph, a magical attack maybe? Gypsy casts curse, the warrior begins to slowly lose skill points in ... 'two handed swords,' etc. Inside the demon's lair, no healing skills will work. Decay being more of an attack in that sense.
