An article at Physorg.com gives a brief synopsis of an interesting experiment recently conducted at Duke University. A group of 341 students were subjected to a brief flash of either the Apple company logo or the IBM company logo and then asked to describe all the possible uses for a brick. Apparently the group subjected to the Apple logo not only consistently produced a greater number of uses, they consistently provided more creative ones.

For the truly curious, the complete PDF is here: Automatic Effects of Brand Exposure on Motivated Behavior

Gives a whole perspective on the expression, "food for thought". laugh.gif

This was part of an April Fool's joke:

Makes a bit more sense now (I believed it at first... you got me Brotoi). We'll see as time progresses... wink.gif

Thank goodness. I knew it was utter BS, just didn't want to devote the time to disproving it. Thanks for saving us all Rico!

Guys... I think Fox got it wrong. I'm reasonably certain this was not intended as an April Fool's joke at all. I suppose I'll have to wait until the next issue of Journal of Consumer Research comes out, but this appears to be a genuine piece of academic research.

Maybe I'm being fooled, but I don't think so. I think Fox, for whatever reason, is either trying to discredit the research or has misinterpreted it.

I believe it. biggrin.gif And it was posted before the first of april.
But then the document is not well formated*, so I don't want to read it. Maybe there are clues inside.

Anyway, I don't really like this kind of studies. In my opinion, it is like saying : "Oh, there is a 'social' aspect in life!". That's always the case even though it is not always easy to demonstrate it.

* : no figures, useless double line spacing, no table of contents for 52 pages
