I would like to see a button that will take you to the first of the new posts in a thread. I really like to see what is new on the forum, but I find it inefficient to go to the thread then have to scroll to the last post I had read to get to the new stuff.

I have seen this function on other forums but I have no idea how hard it would be to implement.

Thanks.

Noted. I will have a look into that. I have many new things in the works, so I will add that to the list.

Perhaps as well something to mark "read" posts from "new" posts. Thanks.

I think the forums are supposed to do this anyway. At least the url suggests it with the ".last" bit that you occasionally see in the address line. I do not think it is working correctly though.

This function works for me. Threads with new posts have a red or light green "button" to thier left until I red them or mark them read. then the button greys out.

This does not always work as expected. If you go to the forums and do not read every message and do not mark everything as read, the bubbles still get greyed out after a period of time.

I should have clarified that. What I meant was the individual posts in a thread, not the thread itself. I see (what appears to be) a small white piece of paper with its corner turned in (dog-eared) to the left of the post time/date. I suppose it's probably supposed to be orange or something when it is being displayed for the first time on the computer with that cookie.

Does anyone have this working for them, or is it just me?

That is actually the same as PHPBB. It is based on when you visit the site, so it is technically "new posts since your last visit." If you don't get to read all the new posts and then your session times out, next time you come back, it is recalculated, so this may occur. I know that happens to me all the time on the Ogre forums (phpbb).

Here is another bug type issue. I enter the forum and scroll down to bottom where the two links are. One is for marking all new posts read, the other is to show new posts. I click on the show new posts and once the page finishes loading, it tells me all new post have now been marked read.

Thanks

EDIT: I just tried it with the replay above and it worked... odd. !dodge

Thats ironic, I just noticed those for the first time when reading this thread. That was the first time I ever used it, but it worked for me (IE6). Let me know what browser you are using and I will see if I can duplicate the issue.

I have been using the "Latest Forum Posts" for months now and have not had the same problems as you guys with finding posts. Would the "Latest Forum Posts" be better on the top of the page before the news? My concern with that is new people coming to the website who want to know the news before reading the forum. Any suggestions? I have been looking at modifying a number of parts to this website, that being one of them. Mole suggested that I make the Latest Forum Posts be 100% wide, filling the entire page's width, but still keep it at the bottom.

What is ideal? I do not think we are going to go back to phpbb, so dont suggest that :P. It does seem though that we are lacking a few features that their forums have, like seeing new posts, and turning of bbcode (smileys etc.). What else do we need?

P.S. I really do appreciate the suggestions and help in finding bugs. Thanks guys.

I wonder....

Would it be possible to add a link to show all new posts since the last time they were all marked as read? A possible place for this would be at the bottom of the forum page where you also have to options to mark all posts read, and view new posts.

How much work would be involved in something like that? Would it even be possible to do?

I really need to read all the posts in a thread and just post one large message instead of two smaller ones...

Now that I think a little more about it, I am not sure that 100% is the right amount of coverage. I think this might be a little too big and that there would be too much dead space. What do you think? Maybe something smaller like 75% or 50% or something in between?

I am so demanding! %-6

That is actually already there, although it is not a button, it is just a link. Try clicking this link and let me know, I can add it to the Main Menu if it is what we want:

There, added it to the main menu. Let me know if this works for everyone.
