Two Middleground landscape sketches done for the Matte painting.

I took a couple days to brush up on my Mechanical Perspective theory and drew the Money Changers Court for MarVellis. I also spent an evening putting color to it. I need more practice on positioning the horizon and ground level and the effects of the positioning of the focus point/canvas line on the model orientation. I need to do enough of it to feel comfortable doing it without construction lines.

Side tracked on a company name sketch.

Side tracked on a shampoo advertisement turned face painting.

Purchased Photoshop CS 2 this week. Now some of my pictures done in CS 1 tell me they were done with an incompatable version and i cannot load them.

I have spent a week putting the pieces together for the matte painting. All the parts i have collected that i thought would make a good composition i find dont fit together at all.

I used alot of photos that i liked and i think that turned out to be my downfall. Not paying attention to each photos seasonal trates and using pieces based on ease of keeping the realizim of the picture with little to no editing. As well each photo had its own perspective and peicing all the images together and correcting each image to the over all picture was impossible.

I am going to start again taking a different approach. Hand draw the entire sceene. Sketch and resketch the to make the image landscape have proper depth and perspective.

I figured i could just whip something up and it would be fantastic. I can see now its going to take alot more planning.

I have been spending some time working on what i hope will be a decent Matte Painting. Putting the complete painting together and getting the composition correct has turned out to be a real challenge and after several changes i think i have finaly settled on a nice composition. This is my first try at Matte Painting by the way so i am feeling my way through.

The week prior i spent working on a decent realistic dragon for the foreground of the image. It has taken shape nicely and i added it to the over all painting this week. The castle in the middle ground is next.
