Lockheed Martin buys "serious" video game maker

LOS ANGELES, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Lockheed Martin Corp (LMT.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Friday it bought 3Dsolve, a maker of "serious" video games used for training. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The defense contractor said the acquisition will strengthen its position in the fast-growing training and simulation market and allow it to provide a broader array of products and services to an expanding customer base.

[Note: I have a friend who made serious money by doing this. His "games" were developed to be so realistic so that they could be used to train SWAT teams and counter terrorism teams. Eventually he was able to market these games to the general consumer as the Rainbow Six series of games. --Mole]
